Sometimes hard decisions have to be made. Many thanks to the two buyers who have taken our grapes so that they can be used, enjoyed, and not left hanging on the vines, like we had to do last year under entirely different circumstances.

Regards,
MarieKARRA YERTA WINEShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02098148258301011519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2515992959543291615.post-75534504526313490332011-11-03T23:35:39.684+10:302011-11-03T23:35:39.684+10:30Thanks, Bek. Thanks for your comments. To be honest, go...Hi Red,
Thanks for your comments. To be honest, good/great/fantastic reviews really only help to establish your credibility.

Sometimes sales pick up once a fabulous review has been published but most times, unless you are out there, on the street, pumping it, sales are slow (I speak of my own experiences, not on behalf of other wineries.)

As a person that works behind the counter of Collective Barossa most days that we are open, answers emails, formats documents, designs labels, arranges labelling etc, runs the social media/sales/marketing/bookwork (with the assistance of a fantastic book-keeper!)for Collective Barossa AND Karra Yerta Wines, I depend on sales via the internet or customers off the street.

I'm not complaining, but pointing out that I can only spread myself so thin when not being able to afford to pay assistants to help as much as I would like (as yet). I cannot get out on the road and do as many tastings as I would like, nor push our wines as much as I would like to, to retailers or distributors. I am also hesitant to deal with just anyone as sometimes it is hard to get your payment in your hands. Ninety day terms can drag out to ten months and that too, is financially crushing.

In a nutshell, no, reviews generally don't sell enough of your wine but the biggest hurdle a small producer faces is that there is quite simply SO much great wine out there. To build a mailing list of regular buyers takes time, and wine-making is an expensive game, so to keep afloat in the interim can be tricky.

I truly believe that most little people (less than 10,000 cases a year) in the wine industry are in it for the passion, not the profit. (FYI we usually make around 400 cases annually). Unless you are getting $50 - $100 a bottle and making and selling lots, profit must surely be a difficult thing to attain! Just my thoughts.....

Cheers,
MarieKARRA YERTA WINEShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02098148258301011519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2515992959543291615.post-88545753594989808772011-11-02T20:09:19.473+10:302011-11-02T20:09:19.473+10:30Interesting and concerning to read Marie.

The (global) climate has certainly been vicious in many ways.

At the end of the day, it's wine, it's grapes, there's a glut. If Karra Yerta produce a minimal amount of wine in 2011, it won't make a dent in much. I still have a home to go to, can still buy food and petrol. Aside from disappointment and some frustration, we're faring quite fine.

Lots of people are still harvesting and I am sure that they will come up with something special and something that people will enjoy in coming years. Such is the life of primary producers.

In the meantime, I'm sure all of us appreciate the support of consumers world-wide, and no doubt we will continue to work through the rest of this vintage and look forward to that of 2012:)

Cheers
MarieKARRA YERTA WINEShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02098148258301011519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2515992959543291615.post-30761606478604687332011-03-27T08:54:01.100+10:302011-03-27T08:54:01.100+10:30Jeez it has been a strange year all over this grea...Jeez it has been a strange year all over this great country I now call home.

To think that, nigh the end of March, you still haven't picked off that fruit just reinforces what a frail existence we all lead in facing up to the trials and tribulations of mother nature.

Still thinking of you up here in Brissy.Stu.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13740407665382016460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2515992959543291615.post-2405359620193863632011-03-26T23:25:56.443+10:302011-03-26T23:25:56.443+10:30Oh, and TWP, will certainly check that Dr. Seuss p...Oh, and TWP, will certainly check that Dr. Seuss poem out:)
Thanks for the education!
Cheers:)KARRA YERTA WINEShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02098148258301011519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2515992959543291615.post-55077432834599346752011-03-26T23:22:35.658+10:302011-03-26T23:22:35.658+10:30Thanks, and apologies for the typos which I have j...Thanks, and apologies for the typos which I have just corrected. As i was trying to eat the cauliflower i realised i could not get my knife through it as it was serverly undercooked, i then tried the turkey and it tasted disgusting, the worst i have ever tasted, I've had better in pubs. i then told the waitress of this and that i would like another meal so she took it back to the kitchen. Then to my surprise the chef came out and said to me "There is nothing wrong with it" in an angry voice looking down at my meal that she carried back out. I told her i would like another meal and she stormed off and muttered under her breath "Go f@#k yourself". I was disgusted at this so i told the waitress what she had said only for her to not even look me in the eye while saying "thats not my problem" My experience was awful - i was not rude in any manner to these people i just simply was not happy with my undercooked meal and was then disgusted and appalled by the lack of acceptable customer service. The chef was so abusive and the waitress clearly had no idea how to provide good customer service as attitude is a very important part of the job. I was so upset by this i left my friends birthday party and went all the way back to Adelaide where i live. So i drove all the way up there to be met with this kind of treatment simply because i was not happy with my meal. Will never go back to this place again as i have never had anyone be that rude to me and it was the worst meal i have ever tasted even the cranberry sauce was horrible. By the way the chef was also the owner so i suggest strongly that people give this place a miss cause with an owner like that its rotten to the core!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
